There are only three connectors to the tach - ignition (switched 12v) ground and the connection to the HT coil. Given that it's also affecting the speedo, it's probably the 12v.

Given your previous problem, have you checked that there aren't any blown fuses?

I would check the voltage getting there first - the HT coil won't affect the speedo as the sensor is on the wheel for that, and the voltage is simpler to check. When you take the silver back off, you have direct access to the three bolts which are the electrical connection to the tach. No need to take it apart completely.

Is it the three 10mm bolts which hold the plastic cover on over the wires u mean? Do I check all 3 with a volt meter and any idea what it should read on them?

No, it's the little bolts with solder tags on them in this picture, you just need to remove the central bolt in the silver cup to remove it. You should have at least 12v between the bottom (BB) and orange/green (OG) connector with the ignition on.

The photo is with the big bolts undone, but I'm pretty sure you won't need to do this. You should also check connectivity between the BB connector and the battery negative terminal.

You can check the signal between the BB and BY but you'll need an oscilloscope to do it properly.
