Stansted Airport help
Any help out here?
I'm flying to Dublin from Stansted in a couple of weeks. how long is check in? Given the flight is early I don't really want to get up ridiculously early! |
Re: Stansted Airport help
With Ryan Air? I normally allow 2 hours to get from the car park, through check in and then security. The security process has sped up the last time I flew out (June 2015), with more lanes & x-ray machines, so its less fraught, but it depends on the time of day.
All Ryan Air flights leave early, so security queus can be longer, as are the check ins, because Ryan Air use the same check in desks for multiple flights, so you'll be mixed up with folk going to all of Ryan Air flights that morning. Same coming back, all the flights arrive in a similar time slot, so queues can form. Hope that helps |
Re: Stansted Airport help
I used to always fly from Stansted but the check in (and especially passport control coming back) can be a nightmare. You might be lucky if the flight is very early but I usually try and check in at least 90 minutes before but usual play safe and get there 2 hours before. If it is quick they have coffee and shops!!

Re: Stansted Airport help
All good to know, as it's obviously now my nearest airport.
(Never flown from there so sorry no help with your thread) |

Re: Stansted Airport help
Still wise to give yourself a hour & 15, and don't forget that you have to get the shuttle train out to which ever gate you're flying from which takes another 5 mins, unless the gate is one of the ones you can walk to from the terminal building.
Depends on which car park you're using as well, short stay is exp[ensive, mid stay is ok, but you have to get the shuttle bus, so that takes time |
Re: Stansted Airport help
Luckily getting a lift or taxi there.

I prepare in the queue by taking all the metal objects I have (including watch & belt) to avoid the metal detectors going off, and avoiding any further delay. Then an hour should be sufficient |
Re: Stansted Airport help
At Stansted your biggest risk is parking.
The airport does it all themselves instead of letting other companies run car parks, shuttle buses and terminal meet and greet. It's fair to say they don't do a good job of it. In August holiday season the police had to be called because people were waiting 4 hours to collect or drop off their keys at the meet and greet office, which is supposed to be the convienient option. In May I waited 90 minutes for a shuttle bus to the long stay car park. If you get the train there you should be fine, if you use a motorbike fine, if you get there by car, leave yourself plenty time, then hope you don't need it. |
Re: Stansted Airport help
Just be aware that Stansted charge a car £2 to exit the drop off area.
