Engine idles at 1000, why?
Why would my bike have suddenly decided that 1000 RPM is the ideal idle point? It was running at the standard 1200 just a month ago and hasn't had anything done to it apart from a fixed puncture, which I don't *think* will affect the revving :D

You can easily adjust the idle revs. On the left hand side of the bike in the second gap in the frame from the front, look for a philips head type screw mounted in a white plastic disc about the size of a penny.
This adjusts the idle revs 8) |
I would guess that over time the idle adjustment screw gradually becomes loose with the vibrations from the engine. Periodically I have to adjust mine. You need a Philips screwdriver, look for the small screw on the left hand side near one of the frame members - there is a white plastic disc surrounding it. Make sure the engine is warmed up properly, and then adjust the screw - turn it the wrong way & the engine will idle lower
For a better description, check out the manual  My idle speed is currently around 1,500 as I have heated grips, and do a lot of riding around town, so need to make sure the battery is getting a good charge every time I stop at the lights |
Ah-ha! I thought on the fuel injection bikes you had to bugger about with the engine management system.
If it's just a screw I think I can just about manage. Although I will warm the engine up this time. Adjusted the idle on a cold bike once and flew to the end of the road at 12000rpm. |
Found you a picture. Its the white circle in the top left

Not sure if it's the same with FI bikes but mine idles lower when it's cold.
