Default Engine idles at 1000, why?

Why would my bike have suddenly decided that 1000 RPM is the ideal idle point? It was running at the standard 1200 just a month ago and hasn't had anything done to it apart from a fixed puncture, which I don't *think* will affect the revving

You can easily adjust the idle revs. On the left hand side of the bike in the second gap in the frame from the front, look for a philips head type screw mounted in a white plastic disc about the size of a penny.

This adjusts the idle revs

I would guess that over time the idle adjustment screw gradually becomes loose with the vibrations from the engine. Periodically I have to adjust mine. You need a Philips screwdriver, look for the small screw on the left hand side near one of the frame members - there is a white plastic disc surrounding it. Make sure the engine is warmed up properly, and then adjust the screw - turn it the wrong way & the engine will idle lower
For a better description, check out the manual
My idle speed is currently around 1,500 as I have heated grips, and do a lot of riding around town, so need to make sure the battery is getting a good charge every time I stop at the lights

Ah-ha! I thought on the fuel injection bikes you had to bugger about with the engine management system.

If it's just a screw I think I can just about manage. Although I will warm the engine up this time. Adjusted the idle on a cold bike once and flew to the end of the road at 12000rpm.

Not sure if it's the same with FI bikes but mine idles lower when it's cold.

could the drop in idle speed mean it's time for a TUNE UP... I think it's more likely your spark plugs ain't firing as strong and yer air filter is getting plugged than your idle screw vibrating out of adjustment
