Replacing the Carbs - easy Job? need balancing ?
I will get a set of used Carbs(10k miles) with dynojet stage 3 on the weekend.
Is it an easy swap ? Anything to look out for ? And will they need balancing ? |
Easy enough to change if you are spanner minded.
A few things to look out for Remove the choke cable at the handlebar end and thread it through the frame, and not form the carbs. Keep an eye on where the cable splits in 2. The tip of the plastic housing is very very fargile! The carb screws that hold in said choke cable will disitergrate, so either get some replacments, or use an impact screwdriver and gentle taps(my method) Make note of which way round the throttle cables go. They couldnt do any harm being balanced/checked Remember that you have the idle screw adjuster thingy to unclip and thread through. Thats all i remember form the 1st time i took mine off. I will also be doing it this weekend to the girlfriends bike replacing the choke cable. Enjoy |
Definately balance - they'll have been adjusted to suit whatever motor they previously inhabited, most unlikely to be right - never know your luck though, stranger things have happened.

no wonder it used to idle at 500 rpm or 2000.... |
The choke screws can be an absolute sod... I'd have replacements laid in for it, even if they come out they'll likely be mungled. They're M5x12, if memory serves.
