Chain oil - cheap!
My mate has a chainsaw for cutting down trees and i happened upon him oiling the chain, now this stuffs 3 quid for 2.5L - 3L in a normal anti freeze type container and looks, feels and smells exactly the same as 'bike chain oil'
The only problem is that it cannot be sprayed straight away Can this be used? If so all you have to do is put it in a large 'spray' bottle to use it And you could put some in a smaller bottle to put under the seat for use on long journeys Just head along to a local tool merchants and check this stuff out. |
Re: Chain oil - cheap!
Just keep and use the stuff you empty out of your engine when you change that oil.
That way its free |

Quite right. Recycle it. |
Re: Chain oil - cheap!
Yup, what they both said.
Obviously flings off more than lube made specificaly for the job so you gotta apply it a bit more frequently but i do use my old engine oil on my chain after ive given it a good clean. |
Re: Chain oil - cheap!

Re: Chain oil - cheap!
"recycled" engine oil will seem like superglue when compared to the fling of chainsaw oil, you should see the way it flings off the guide bar. If you do use it please, please take it easy to see how you get on before pushing the bike too hard. Don't want to read about another 'off' on the forum.

For real budget conscious peoples a great opportunity should not be overlook. Provided free is ear wax which can be collected over a period of time and apply generally to chain. Likely to have extremely "low fling" qualities I thinking?
