I noticed a strange clunking noise comming from the gear change area of the bike (2002 Curvy S) last night. Might have been doing it for a while, just didn't put ear plugs in last night.
Clunking noise sounds like the clunk you get during a gear change (and comes from the same area). A clunk every few seconds (time varies), it stops when the clutch is pulled in or the bike is stationary. Drive is smooth otherwise. Is this something that I should worry about? Does it sound expensive or just a clean up job? Not had chance to have a look at it yet, I suspect its some springy thing (stop me if I get too technical) thats sticking. |

does the rate of clunk change with speed?
If so, I'd suspect a corroded/tight link in the chain. Check both front & rear sprockets for wear, and full compliment of teeth. Pulling in the clutch takes off the load off the final drive so a noise from it can be reduced that way. Jambo

Id go with a tight spot in the chain or it could be a missing sprocket tooth at worst?

it has oil
![]() I'd expect it to be more consistant (time wise) if it was the chain, it seemed to get less often when speeding up. Although I only noticed it when going slow. Earliest I can look at it is tomorrow morning, I'll report back. Thanks for the heads up on the chain I'll give it a good looking at. |

the thing is with wind noise you carnt realy tell if it gets louder with speed, ifyou have a abba stand or padock stand maybe run it just with clutch bite (go up through gears so gets faster each time but no throttle or it may end up off the stand) and see it you can figure out where the noise is coming from (exactly)

I've got an ABBA, thought of doing that but talked myself out of it with thoughts of going through the back of the garage
