Right then... The MCN test our this weak, the 4 Jap bikes vs the BMW S1000RR.
The problem? Power, basically MCN have tested them on a Dyno (apparently) and the lines and numbers they have come out with are interesting to me, but not in the usual "wooo thats nice aint it" kind of way, its in the "how the hell can that work?" kind of way. Right then, people might know that the Torque (ft-lb) and Power (BHP) are directly related and you can convert torque at a certain RPM to BHP at that same RPM simply by doing torque x RPM / 5252=bhp and bhp/rpm x 5252 = torque. So from that you will know that if two completely different bikes have the same torque at the same RPM they will have the same power. and visa versa. Now look at this picture: What looks off to you? Well either the power line for the BMW is way off or the torque line is. Why? Well as above, if the BMW has a power line above the other bikes, its torque line should be also... is it? Nope. So, which one is wrong? Id guess power line, and that the torque is pretty much bang on. Which means that if the torque at 11,800rpm (where the power graph says peak power is) is about 72ft-lb (hard to tell with scale of graph) the power will be 75*11,800 / 5252 = 162BHP. So what if the power line is right? Well 183 / 11800 x 5252 = 81.45 ft-lb at 11,800 RPM, now that is pretty unlikely imo, a Desmo RR Motogp replica dont even make that at that sort of RPM! So what do you think? How on earth did this get past them at MCN (he he)? cheers for reading. Last edited by ThEGr33k; 17-12-09 at 01:11 AM. |

The Suzuki and Kawa do look like 180+ but its just the way the photo has shown up on here...actually 160+ in print.
Not the 1st or the last time the press balls these things up. That power curve would make you think the beemer had a much bigger capacity. ![]() ![]() ![]() Actually a lovely looking bike in the flesh. Saw a puke green one in the shops with a shorty Akra. Would still have the r1 purely for the way the thing sounds at all revs. TheGreek you are a nerd of the highest order! ![]() Respec'. ![]() |
