Solvol Autosol is a metal polish, for polishing bare metal (especially good for aluminium, works on stainless exhaust pipes too), it isn't really suitable for painted surfaces, too abrasive.

Most modern bikes engine casings are painted, or are plastic sometimes (clutch covers etc). Use something suitable for paint, like normal bodywork wax polish, or even spray furniture polish can be pretty good and tends not to make black plastics go white and messy. I've used some Autoglym aerosol "Bike Shine" which is very good if a little pricey - use sparingly.
