Default Brembo Mastercyl Warning

There are some mastercylinders that have appeared on the market that are copies of the Brembo 19mm cast radial cylinders.

Without having a 'real' brembo to compare against you could be easily mistaken.

The main differences are the area around the lever pivot on a Brembo is machined flat on bith sides and later cylinders have the dimensions stamped on the top flat, wheras the copies are rough cast.

The finish of the copies is a slightly gloss painted type finish and Brembo's are dull anodized finish, the same goes for the pushrod/span adjuster etc, these are gloss black on the copies and satin/matt on Brembo's.
the clips for the lever pivot pin is black on the copy and silver on Brembo

There is no stamping or etching on the copy levers and are a rougher finish/ not as machined and brembo have the ratio # etched or stamped either on the ball of the lever or in the cut-out just near the span adjuster.
The span adjuter on the copy is really stiff and doesn't 'click' nicely.

The copies come with a reservoir and hose fitted, there is no branding on the reservoir, brembo's dont come with res and the brembo res has the 'B' logo on the lid.

The bleed nipple on the copy is 8 or 10mm nut and Brembo's are 11mm.

I know its a fair list but believe me these differences are slight, I wouldn't have questioned it until it was sat next to a real one.

I think they're on ebay for about £120, they're definately no where near the quality of the Brembo ans as they are a cheap copy the safety could be questionable, certainly not a risk worth the £80 or so saving

No a customer brought it in to the shop, Brembo have had it for 'evaluation' so they are aware of them

Woo, I wouldn't have noticed that from the pic, there's enough wrong details but you'd need to be looking. Good warning that.

I checked out the prices of Brembo Radial m/cylinders a couple of years back when I had a Gixer Thou with AP Racing 6 pots. Yamaha's R1 (2004/5 model) uses a radial Brembo unit, it's £125 quid from Yamaha with lever .

It's not the same as the aftermarket brembo parts though, it's yamaha made with the Brembo logo (if memory serves they own Brembo). I had one of those ont eh SV for a while, it's a good part but a bit lower quality than the "real" thing, more flex in it etc. Quite small too, I think it's a 15mm or 16mm bore.

I thought they were 18mm, but I could well be wrong.
