Default Front pad noise

I’ve not been that impressed with the front brakes on my 2000 SV, and have been thinking of upgrading the pads.
It already has braided hoses, so next thing to look at would be the pads.
Bearing in mind I thought my forks would benefit from progressive springs, bought a new set, went to fit them, only to find it already had them fitted.
Thought I would go down the sintered pad route, but thinking about the noise my brakes make at the moment (sound like rusty discs) is this the sound sintered pads make anyway?
I will pull out what’s in there now and check before I splash out, but what I am I looking for, do standard look different from sintered?

Mike

First things first if your brakes are making noise are the pads worn out? Are they dragging?

and If in my case they are full of crud, they will bind and make dragging noise. Your calipers sound like they need a service. Isn't that right chris

Plenty of meat left on em, and they only make a noise when applied, their not dragging.

If its brake squeal then nothing to worry about, a clean up and some copperslip on the backs of the pads will sort that.

afaik the sintered metalic pads tend to be a coppery colour

Sintered pads do make a noise, a sort of hissing/gentle scraping/whooshing or if you're really going for it, they can sing to you too. Once you get beyod singing you're usually bouncing the back wheel a bit and clattering the chain.

No not a squeal, more like sand paper on metal.
