Coming up to my first bike MOT.
Is there anything specific, and easy to check, that I should look out for before it goes in. And anyone recommend somewhere to take it in the Sutton Surrey area. Cheers Jon |

Obvious things to check are:-
Tyres (legal), wheels/bearings Lights (working and legal) and point the right direction Indicators (etc) Rear reflector Suspension, no leaks, working, no excessive play Steering, including lock stop. (seen a few fail because bars touch tank) Brakes, working and release, pad depth, straight discs. condition of pipes. footpegs and controls stable Exhaust. Not marked "not for road use etc". No stamps is NOT a fail. No plate legal. Frame number stamped. Most of the above is simple good practice. Lets be honest about most stuff, on a bike it is what keeps you upright and you would be barmy to neglect tyres, bearings, brakes, suspension etc. But people do. some is legal, like stamps, plates, reflectors. There is NO noise test a simple subjective assessment.

And really clean the bike too. Gives the impression of a well cared for machine, plus you may notice something that needs sorting.
Used to be a place on the Kingston Road New Malden. Run by an honest chap who wouldn't find "problems" just to generate work. Can't remember the name though. Sorry. |

The Haynes manual has a decent pre-MOT check but I've often forgotten to check the horn works (barely ever use it)
