Right I have asked my Daughter if she wants to go Pillion on my bike this summer. She said yes so:
She is 9 in September and more than capable of holding on to me and her feet can reach the pillion pegs. I don?t want to go honing around like I would on my own for obvious reasons, And I intend to get an autocom set up for her so she can tell me if she is scared, needs the toilet, uncomfy etc. and I also intend to get one of those love handle things so she can hold on more comfy, as the 6R only has a crappy leather grab handle. I want to get her some good kit as I am not going to be one of these ar*e holes you see in full leathers with a kid in jeans. So wise peeps of the org any recommendations for kit, everything from head to toe, and whether you would recommend textiles or leathers. Not to worried about waterproof kit as I will only be going out with her in the dry to bike meets in the evening or a gentle bimble in the summer evenings. |

Will watch this thread with interest as my daughter is also wanting the occasional ride on the bike, but I am a bit apprehensive.

HG have some extremely cute arlen ness suits in kiddy sizes but they cost a small fortune... Missus has some "Hein Gericke Kids Gear" textile trousers & a HG part leather/part textile "Moto Gear" jacket - she's about 4'10 or so. They fit perfect for height but child/adult erm... shape differences means she finds them a bit uncomfortable. The protection on both items is fine and they zip together. Gloves were trickier to find, the ones shes got are too long in the fingers and probably wouldn't be suitable for riding as a result, however they're tight enough around the wrist so they're unlikely to come off. I seem to remember available boot choice was pretty slim. All in all, cost of the gear was actually pretty cheap (well, "cheap" ain't exactly the word, but reasonable for bike gear) with the exception of the lid, the only thing we could find that fitted was an XXS Astro Light.
Definitely get the love handle thingies, and for the first couple of trips you might find that your little'un wants to slide forward and sit on the same seat as you - so be prepared for crushed nads and don't brake too swiftly if you want to stand any chance of having any more kids ![]() |

My 3yr old helps with the mechanics, and is desperate to get on the back for a ride. But he's far too young. The other two haven't shown nearly as much interest. |
