Default Heel plate getting mashed

Is it just me, or does everyone's heel plate get mashed like this?

I realise it's my boots , however most pics I see of people's bikes have nice shiny heel plates, do most of you wear slippers when riding

I wouldent, just saying they are so cheap that you could afford to replace them every year or so if you wanted.
