Default KTM buying advice wanted

Hey all,

A friend of mine is looking at buying this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/KTM-300-EXC-B...QQcmdZViewItem

and want's me to go and have a look with him. Aside from the obvious secondhand stuff + the bits needed to make it road legal, does anyone know specifics about this bike. I'm guessing it started life as 250 EXC and has had the 350 kit fitted. Anything else??

Before you all point it out, I know the seller can't spell for sh!t, but that's no need to discriminate. Plus the bike is located around the corner, so I'd imagine a deal could be done in person.

Thanks for your help

Luke

i don't know about 2-strokes as much as 4-strokes, but i'll put it up on the KTM Forum for opinions as there's some proper experts on there...

my own opinion is that any ebay ad with that many exclamatio marks and that says "best trail bike ever" is not going to be a sound investment

now i've read it more thoroughly, my instinct would be to run a mile and get a newer bike, they're generally more reliable and better built with fewer chronic problems, someone on the ktm forum pointed out this one, no idea if it's worth a 580km trip though

i'd trust KevInYorks opinion 100% - he knows more about the RFS type KTM bikes than anyone else i've seen so if he says avoid it, i'd avoid it...

how much is that in real money? £1000?

TBH i would not get it, its too old, i think there was probs with older ktms, and getting parts could be a nightmare

The price at the current exchange rate is 750 pounds, but you can't really compare prices to the UK market as they are completely different!

Massive thanks to lone_wolf for your help on this one. I'm going to go and have a look + give my friend the info from the KTM forum and see what he thinks. End of the day, it's his money - I'll check the usual second hand stuff, but I guess the decision ultimately lies with him!

It's interstate, which while not impossible, is much more of a PIA than buying something in NSW
