Default Hong Kong Fairings - £350

Does anybody have any experience with this kind of stuff?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KAWASAKI-Ninja...1%7C240%3A1318

I now have cracked left and right fairings, so trawling through ebay to try and replace them (let alone get them in blue) is painful and could work out pretty expensive. But I'm a bit dubious about forking out 350 sheets for some potential rubbish from somewhere overseas where there probably isnt much chance of returning it etc.

It would probably look better than any effort I could make with replacement fairings and a black spray can however...

cheers

PS, scrolling to the bottom of the link shows some pics of the bike with the fairing on...

Original kawasaki parts are very expensive although bargains come up on ebay ocassionally. I would have to respray the nasty decals on the chinese copies as they look tat which kind of wipes most of the savings. Have read they are bit cheap/thin on close inspection but basically ok and having repaired a ninja 636 with genuine panels I probably would have gone for the chinese copies if I was going to tart up a bike with a lot of damage. Nose cones/fairings vary a lot from one year/month to next with minor changes in mounting points etc which means they often dont fit despite what the sellers will tell you.

I've not seen that set but the ones for the ZXR400 are absolute gash.

Is anyone else singing Hong Kong Fairings to the tune of Hong Kong Phooey?

Funny that I'm seeing so many negative reviews. One of the guys at our local bike club bought a full set of sponsor painted ones for his Ducati 996, they fitted up perfectly and if anything the quality is better than the Ducati originals.

My dad bought something similar from Hong Hong for his Honda Blackbird.
The backbird had some cracking fairings and welded in places from a previous owner, so he wanted to replace them.

They had holes and brackets missing/out of place and no bungs, panels that fit differently and the colour was slighty off, aswell as the light hole being slighty off and wonky decals.
Much flimsier aswell.

The first set that arrived from them was a black one with bloody flames down it, when a standard blue set was ordered, so that had to be sent back to bloody Hong Kong, or America for some reason .. not sure.

Hes now looking just get the orginals professionally sorted and resprayed and selling on the new set on cheaper.

I helped Benji fit a set to his ZX6R J1, they were in green too.

They were a bit of a pain to get right, not a bad fit but you need to make sure that you fit a heat-insulating layer to the back of them or they'll melt. They weren't pre-drilled so we had to get some big-assed drill bits for the side panels. They lined up nearly right, but needed quite a few creative fixes with additional nuts & bolts compared to OE. A fair bit of work with a dremmel was needed for the air-intake joining points and a few other areas.

They looked quite good when they were done, but it's not quite a case of removing the old ones and bolting the new ones straight on in their place.

Better than a lot of after-market items though. I'll point this thread out to Benji as he did most of the work on it.
