Default tight throttle

I recently bought a used 2003 SV650S. It has been modified to a naked SV650, including headlight and handlebar change. It also has a bar-end mirror. But I feel the throttle is so tight that every time I ride, my wrist gets sore very easily.

What's the problem? Thanks.

Try moving the switch assembly left a bit. I had a similar problem on my K3 when I got it. Also the bar end mirror probably doesn't help.

There may not be sufficient clearance between the two to allow the throttle to rotate freely.

If thats OK, check the linkage and run a bit of light oil (WD40 or similar) down the throttle cables.

Also check that there is some free play in the cables. There needs to be a little bit of slack otherwise the return cable is always working against the on cable and this causes it to bind by the throttle tube. If you wind the throttle open (with the engine off) and let go it should snap shut on it's own. There is also a possibility that when they changed the handlebars they didn't change the cables. The naked cables are longer as they need to go further to straight bars, but with the pointy it's not just the cables that are different, it is also the throttle assembly, which is expensive, so some people (me included) bodge it. I overcame it by rerouting the original cables but it may be that yours are being pulled around a tight angle. Is it worse if you go to full lock one way or the other?
