You've got 2 air filters?

If you only had one I'd say fit a K&N and don't worry about jetting, it doesn't flow much different to the original.

With a K&N filter fitted to your airbox you are very likely to not need to alter the jetting.

Hmmm seeing as I'm new to having decent bikes... is it worth fitting a K&N to a (Curvy) SV? Smoother power delivery etc.? Or is it a load of balls?

Easy to fit for someone who can just about do an oil change?

Its a load of balls.

Easy enough, pop up the tank, unscrew old filter, put in new one. On the curvey, 4x4mm allen head bolts, and 4xphilips screws.

hi qpop....

personally I wouldnt bother, but its your bike and if your anything like me you will always find something you want to do to it, I used to have a BMC RS Race filter fitted and rejetted to suit, im told this flows much better than the K&N as the K&N is pretty close to standard (I think, ive not had one), so close as said its likely you wouldnt even need to change the 2 main jets in the carbs.

I have now gone back to standard jets and standard filter (long story ) and there really isnt a great deal of difference IMO, and thats between a standard filter and a full open top pretty much the best you can get (as far as i know?) BMC one, so unless your going to spend £££'s on tuning engine and full exhaust system etc theres not a great benefit to be had.

one advantage of going to a different filter tho is if its a re-useable one that you can clean etc and should last a lifetime, i dont know if the K&N is or not maybe someone here could let you know?

and finally...its a piece of P*ss to change as described above, if you havnt got a manual grab yourself a haynes or something simalr for around £20, should prove money well spend....oh....and great choice of bike!

The general consesus with the K+N is that it will alter the air intake by such a tiny amount that you don't have to both re-jetting, but they save you money in the long run as you don't replace them - you just clean them and put them back in.
They are a quality filter, they are not a race filter.

Hope that helps

As said above, main advantage is that its re-usable so you dont have to buy a new air filter at each service, but it does take a few services for it to pay for itself.

Also the induction roar is much better with an after market filter to.

ah yes forgot to mention that...it does sound sweeter.....(may be worth taking the sound deadening foam off the underside of the tank while you have it lifted too..)
