Default spark plug query

I have owned my bike (2000 SV650S) for about 18 months now and in the time I have had it i have only done about 3000 miles.

The bike only has 12000 ish miles on the clock.

It was previously owned by a mechanic and was and still is well looked after.

I have just carried out an oil and filter change (with the help of my father in law) and as I am in no way technically or mechanically minded wondered how often the spark plugs should be changed?

Also is there any recommendations as to which plugs are the better ones to use?

Thanks.

Plugs are NGK CR8E. Or the iridium equivalent.

I'd be tempted to whip them out to have a look and get a bit of coppaslip on the threads. But they probably don't need replacing at that mileage.

I go for about 10,000 miles. But this seems quite alot...but then my plugs have been in my bike for 10,000 miles (almost) and I have no running issues. I'll be changing them pretty soon, so I'll get some pictures up of what a spark plug from a reasonably well-looked after SV looks like after that time, all those cold-starts, all that sittign about in traffic, all those high-revs, etc etc etc etc
