My bike has been having some problems lately with surging. It does it at random times unlike others i have read about with similar problems. I took it to the shop and they gave it a tune up, inspection, and rode it around and couldn't see the problem or figure it out. But it then did it again on the way home from the shop. Any suggestions to the problem? thanks

Mine used to do that, pretty durned scary when it happens on a fast corner. I ended up on the wrong side of the road a number of times. It was almost like the engine dropped a cylinder for a fraction of a second before firing up again and pinging the bike forward.
Turned out to be a problem with the throttle bodies. Got them changed and it's never happened since. |

Could be the Links between the throttle bodies sticking , they open both of them at the same time , Have you noticed this happening around the 3.5-4k mark on the rev counter ? I am assuming you have a Pointy here though so maybe the throttle bodies need balancing , if it`s a Curvy have you ever had the carbs balanced ?

Probably the idle fuel trim, is it more at the low end of the rev range? The Lambda sensor should sort that out automaticaly if it has one. If not then you have to adjust the idle fuel trim through a diagnostics tool.
Could also be that the throttle bodies need a balance. I'd definatly check the lamda sensor out as a first port of call. |

You sure it don't have any tight spots at all in the chain?
My Bandit 600 used to surge, changed the chain and it was fine. It was also happening to my SV but that chain snapped at the split link even when it was looked after and adjusted. |
