Long story, its not very interesting but please read and help me.
When I finished work yesterday morning i went back to my curvy started it on choke, left it on while i got my gear on, and rode off home. i did shut the choke off and everthing appear normal at this point but half way home im down shifting and it feels like the engine braking is an IL4, so i use the brakes to pull over and look at the tacho to see that the engine is revving at about 3,500rpm!?!? So my first thought was oh must of left the choke on, no not that. next choke plungers, so put the choke on and the revs increase so i turn the choke off thinking the plungers/cable isnt jammed otherwise the choke wouldn't feel normal and work normal. so im sat at the side of the road adjusting the idle speed resetting it to just under 1,500rpm like normal in the winter. I want to know if theres anything else which could of caused it and be resolved by the adjusting the idle speed control just under the tank or has someone i worked with really messed with my bike. Thanks for any help, Sunshine. |

you do of course know there are two choke plungers one for each carb, don't you ?
Cheers Mark

First things first is the throttle returning all the way to the stop. Then look at chokes.
I have had a choke cable freeze before, but that made it stick off not on. A load of grease cured it.

Last problem I had with choke sticking on was salt ,water had run down cable an crystalized from an earlier ride

mark: if only one choke was stuck on then the other cylinder would miss when i turned the idle speed down.
YC: throttle seems normal. Is there anyway to know if the choke is stuck on without looking at the plungers/messing with the carbs? |

I had one choke plunger stuck marginally open, which resulted in it idling at 2300 rpm. They only need to be open a small amount to make a big differance

hi,my girlfriends bike did the same as yours and after some playing about it was apparent that the front choke plunger was stuck in the out /choke on position/ due to water corrosion.
I had to remove carbs and nursed the plunger free with wd40 and put back with a little grease.job done and happy lady. good luck |

Mine has started to do this as well. Jiggling the black plastic bit where the cable splits into two usualy has it falling back to a normal idle. I feel a trip to Spannerman is on the cards at some point soon though as it took ages to persuade it to do so last week.
