Default Recommendations for boots?

Well lads (and ladies)

I was wondering if there are any biking boots that are ok for use as everyday footwear? Or would that mean sacrificing stiffness etc and make them poor in a spill?
I know there are some boots altered to be useable on a bike, (e.g. Altberg) but any personal recommendations would be much appreciated

Don't need anything fancy, just functional. I have a price limit of about 120 pounds but could probably go over for a good deal on durable boots!

Summer or winter boots? Properly waterproof, like Goretex or just waterproof?

Sidi's Black Rains are some of the most comfortable bike boots ive had the pleasure to walk about in.

Dont forget tho, bike boots soles are made thin to give you "feel" thru thr pegs so if you do lots of walking on them you'll wear then quite quick.
Sidi do now sell replacement soles that you can buy and take to your local shoe heel place to fit for you.

Hi Spiderman,

Just waterproof is fine, Goretex may be 'breathable' but there are decent substitutes where you don't pay through the nose for the name, at least in my experience with walking boots. I'm pretty much looking for winter boots, have no boots yet and I think a pair of winter boots would get the most use.

I do a decent bit of walking so I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I tend to get my boots resoled when they wear down in general so that sounds fine.

Thanks for that! I'll take a look at the Sidi Black Rains.

Take a look at Ride magazines top 5 winter boots. Their top rated boot is the TCX infintity GTX at £189, which might save a fair wad of cash.

I know how expensive Sidi's are because I used to wear their cycling shoes, but now very expensive & I can get something just as good for a lot less money

But at the end of the day it's what feels comfy and gives your feet good protection if you were to crash, and how much you're prepared to spend

I tried a pair of Sidi Vertigo's on and didn't like them.

I've got a pair of puma bonneville motorcycle boots that are stupidly comfy for walking around in. They're not particularly overstated though, so if you want to look like a stormtrooper they aint for you.
I've done plenty of walking around in them though as I've gone away for weekends with nothing for my feet but them and they've been great. Fairly cheap at £80 too!

Thanks for the feedback!
I took a look on fleabay and there happened to be a very nice pair of Black Rains in my size going cheap, unpackaged but hardly used. So I bid and I won (barely!)
Those Puma Bonnevilles look nice alright, very unstormtrooper-y.. good reviews too, didn't see that post before I started bidding though :P

you'll enjoy the black rains mate, a decent boot for not a lot of money and very comfy to walk in.

These are my current boots. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=131688
