right ive been learning about suspension set up from the master of the dark arts elmer fud
so now need the orgs help to get info on other bikes factory settings, you can get this info from your handbooks or from other forums you are members of, these are the setting that the bike came with out of the showroom ,not what you recomend or just happened to be on your secondhand bike eg sv1000 front preload 1 1/2 turns from full, rear preload 1 3/4 from full so on and so forth please include rebound ,preload and compression im looking for as many as possible so whichever bikes you have (i know some dont have all the adjustments above) please list below cheers dave ps if you could put the source as well that would be great Last edited by davepreston; 28-04-10 at 01:54 AM. |

You'll be learning all bikes (jap anyway) come set up too softly sprung from the factory unless you weigh 11 stones or less.
Stock settings are merely a starting point. Not what you asked for but here is a table of suggested susp. settings from SportRider magazine.: http://www.sportrider.com/suspension...ngs/index.html Keep in mind this too is only a starting point. Riding preference and style are also factors here. Stock settings are carp for most when the bike is new. If that bike now has 10k or more on the clock, they are useless.

i intend to start from factory settings the adjust from there, it makes it easier to have that as the base line , after that its down to setting the bike up for the particular rider

Oops... Forgive my derail Dave. ![]() I thought you were seeking clues as to how to set up your own bike. Will leave you with this one general tip: If the fork springs have 10k or more on them (stock or replaced) you'll find cranked down somewhere between 2/3 to 3/4 of their adjustment on the preload to be the spot. Stock is usually 1/2 or less. Back to the needed info then...

DAVE HAVE A LOOK AT THIS.
http://www.moto-racing.co.uk/Guides/...nsionSetup.htm IM STILL STRUGGLING WITH MINE. GOT THE SAG SET RIGHT APPARENTLY BUT THIS REBOUND AND COMPRESSION MULLARKY IS NOT WORKING HOW I WOULD EXPECT. FOR SOME REASON I FIND MYSELF DROPPING THE BIKE IN TWICE. LIKE OK IM TURNING NOW THEN EITHER WOA!I NEED TO CORRECT BECAUSE IM TURNING TOO FAST OR SLOW. ON THE CORNERS WHERE IT DOES WORK ITS FANTASIC BUT THEN YOU GET THE OFF ONE (NORMALLY FST SWEEPING) WHERE IT JUST DOESNT FEEL STABLE. ANY IDEAS? |
