Default SV running lean, or rich.

hi

installed a Fuel can a little while ago. recently ive noticed alot of black soot build but at the end /inner part of the can. also abit of soot has seemed to of escaped where the connecting pipe is (around the bolts area) today i also noticed this is going on to the swing arm!!

I made sure the bolts where extra tight and actually re adjusted them to fit over more/ better about a day after i fitted it.

any idea what this is? Is it the carbs need re adjusting or what? (Curvey, 2000 bike) I used to know but forgot

Thanks

Not sure about exhaust, seems like it could be prone to being inaccurate (in my head anyway) - I'd check the spark plugs if you're concerned as to how it's running.

If the colour of your spark plugs is fine (double check with a mechanical genius though) then I wouldn't be worried. unless you can feel it not running right?

If soot is escaping from bits then it's blowing a bit - that might cause ill running I think.

Bit of soot is normal, if it is running ok it is fine. Maybe have a glance at choke plungers.

It does seem to run fine.

cold stars the exhaust seems a bit blowy (slight lack of back pressure?)

i'll get a photo up and see what you think...

thanks

My can does it all the time, from the end and the joints.

It's just the more dirty parts of the burnt fuel showing there's a slight leak in the pipe joins and the staining on the end is because of the way an aftermarket can dicharges the exhaust gases.

If it runs fine it's not a problem except you have to clean the staining off!

On the joints you have a few air leaks and if the engine seems happy with them that's all you have!

But having a look at the plugs will let you know the engine is happy, but if it runs fine you only have the cleaning problem!

A race can is basically a through can with the odd bits that create the back pressure required, that means if you have the odd hole in the joins the gases squirt out of them.

just as a matter of interest, did you seal the joint with anything when you fitted the slip on can or not ?

Generally if it's a can only it'll have no adverse effect on running 9in fact have very little positive effect either for that matter, and is only a looks/sound thing.

Cheers Mark.

not to the joint, but within it yes, it'll stop anything coming out on the swingarm at the very least.

Cheers Mark.
