Default Are all doctors receptionists b1tches?

So Wednesday I submit my request for repeat prescription and popped in last night to pick it up.

Not there.

They check, then the "practice manager" checks comes upto the counter and says you need it re authorising.

Eh!

Your last counter slip said to reauthorise.

What does than mean

You need to make an appointment for you blood pressure checking before we can issue another.

Why did you not say that on the last slip.

We did, It says reauthorise

Well how is anyone to know reauthorise means please make an appoint to se the doctor. Besides which my blood pressure was checked last time I saw him and I keep an eye on it anyway.

She checks, that was in february it needs to be done again.

Well can somebody do it

No they have all gone home.

So can I have a script as I have run out.

No you need to see a doctor

OK can you make me an appointment for monday

No you need to phone on monday

Well when are your evening appointments

Everyday

So can I please book for after 7 as I don't get home from work before then

No we close at 6

That is ridiculous how apart from taking time off work am I expected to see a doctor.

If you don't like it I suggest you find another practice.

So guts in agony, no Lansoprazole and I no guarantee that I am going to get sorted on Monday. And she lectures me this is all about good medical care. No it is about messing about patients for the sake of a system

You're forgetting that they aren't there for your convenience. Your health is irrelevant as it interferes with their work filling in endless statistical returns to the LHB. Patients who get sick are a pain in the ar$e (or guts in your case).

Request a home visit - that'll pee them off. Or go see the local out-of-hours service and tell them why you're there. That should improve things

Most of them are definitely, but not all. My mum is a doctors receptionist and is the exception to the rule

I hate that, cant book an appointment for the future unless you phone early on a specific day, and when you ring it advises you to ring back at a less busy time.

If you attend A and E purely for a prx for medication then I`d imagine you`d be chased out pretty quickly!

They are at my surgery I'm afraid. The booking system was devised by the last Govenment I seem to recall

One of the "targets" was that no patient should wait more than 48hrs to see their GP. The GPs chose to meet said target by only making appointments for that day, so every gets seen with 24hrs - yay .

Like the 18 week referral to treatment (rtt) target- hospitals started running extra out-patient clinics (which count as "treatment" so that although everyone would be seen within the 18 weeks, they just had to wait longer for the actual treatment they needed (when taken as a median - I did have a copy of the report on my desk at work). Fortunately this has now been scrapped.
