Ok I went to start my bike today and the battery was flat, tried to bump start it but couldn't push it very far as was in gear and the clutch didn't seem to be releasing engine?
Put the battery on charge and got the engine started. Whilst on a paddock stand I pulled the clutch in and kicked it into gear to find the rear wheel spinning, if I pulled the clutch in and out there was no change in the speed of the rear wheel. I checked on the LHS of the bike to find the cable pulling the spindle bit going into the engine and when I took the oil fil cap off I could see the clutch plate moving in and out as I did the lever. But yet the clutch doesn't seem to be working. Help! Its a Y reg curvy style sv650s. |

I believe that even with the clutch pulled in there is still a very slight drag. This wouldnt be noticed when the bikes got it's weight on the rear wheel & you on it. But when it's on the paddock that weight is removed of the rear wheel and that slight drag that is usually un-noticed has just enough drag to drive the rear wheel a little bit.
Any one else want to back up this theory? EDIT: Have you tried putting it into gear (with clutch pulled in!) with you on it yet? Last edited by jonny.boyd; 06-11-10 at 05:02 PM. Reason: edit |

Wheel spinning when on the paddock stand is normal, it's just viscous drag from the oil in between the clutch plates.

Has the bike stood for a period of time ?? maybe the plates are just "stuck together" through lack of use, without the engine running and in gear push/rock the bike backwards and forwards and try releasing the plates with the lever pulled fully in ensuring there is no slack in the clutch cable.
