I may have a phase down on the generator. Checking voltage accross the three, 2 are around the 70 V ac but one is around 6 to 8 V ac.
From here what lead connections can be checked ? is it just the ones on the reg/rec plug side or is there any at the generator/engine end or indeed in between ?. Many thanks Last edited by Foamer; 12-03-11 at 02:15 PM. |

The lead is sealed from the connector down to the engine, it's a case of whipping the side cover off to have a look.
There are 2 connectors for some reason with a little 6" connector in between so make sure you're measuring at the genny side of that. Also you can do resistance check. You should have no continuity to earth on either of 3, and between wires there should be 0.2-0.7 ohm

Thanks for the reply
This is what I've got Across the three terminals in the block near the seat, 1.0 ohm 1.0 ohm 0.8 ohm Continuity to earth ( if I' doing it correctly) -ve probe on chassis earth connector, then touch the terminals in turn. All 3 made the audible sound on my tester ??? |

Sounds suspect then, pull the casing off and have a look if anything's burnt.

So I did the earth test correct then ?
Thought of looking in the generator housing that but wanted to check first, I can't find anything in manual about the procedure for looking in that side of the casing, does this require an oil drain and poss new gasket, any pics or references anyone ? |

Look for a thread by nadine de bien, bluesv650s took a load of pics, dunno whether they're still live or what.
Lean the bike over a fair way, bit further than normal sidestand (obviously other way) and pull casing, then you don't need to drain oil. You might need a new gasket If using a wall it helps to chock wheels and take tank off (hard to get it up with it leant over like that and you need to to feed wires down unless you do that lot first.

Thanks for your help. I may do an oil change with this inspection/possible replacement so onto the paddock stands it will go.

Sounds just like what I have, will check the 3 ac cables first for damage before the spanners come out. Thanks again. |

Got the cover off and it doesn't look good (see photos), one of the coils looks burned out.
New one from wemoto I think along with gasket. |
