Default Metzeler sportec m1's

Eyup folks, Got a set of metzeler m1's fitted about 2000 miles ago and the rears quite squared off and on the limit, does that seem about right? I dont do any commuting / motorway riding on the bike, its just a fair weather machine so usually twisty roads so i just thought it seemed a bit strange. I get the fact that the bikes sat upright most of the time and leant over for corners for short periods of time but their just seems to be a fairly major difference. As this is my first set of tyres and first bike i dont have anything to compare them to so just wondering if it seems right. Just got an advisory for the rear on't MOT today and rear brake pads, not done bad for its 1'st ever mot at 3 yrs.

Also wondering if i put another brand on the back instead of another metzeler will there be handling issues? for example more grip on the back and the front lets go or vice versa?

Cheers,
Danny

Doesn't seem good for Metzelers, normally they are a high milage tyre, but the M1 wasn't designed to do what you're doing.

Its a sports orinintated tyre made for grip not high miles. Which is why you've squared it off so quickly

The Z6 which I've got is better for high milage.

I just got these fitted when i bought the bike, didnt know if they were any good and didnt realise that there were so many types of tyre so just got the dealer to fit whatever really. What tyres would be reccomended for the summer then? and would it be best to fit a set of tyres or just change the rear if im going for different brands?

Well I've found for all round use the Metzeler Z6's have been very good, including 2 track days, even though they're not a sports tyre.

Think generally Avon Storms & Michelin Pilot Roads are used a lot. Avon Storms I think are the most popular.

Just be careful as these won't have the same grip as your M1's, but will last a lot longer.

There's plenty of threads about tyre choice

Cheers for that, I presume that from what you said the m1's are more sports orientated? soft compound Jobbys? The only thing is with this been the first bike and first set of tyres i dont have anything to compare them to. Ill just have a read up on some tyre choices and see what seems alright i suppose, Possibly be the spring time when id be gettin a new one anyway cos its gettin a bit cold and wet for me now .

Cheers again

Yes, softer compound tyres

What tyre pressure are you running and do you check them often?. You would be better off with the new M5 Metzeler or Z8 interact. The M1 is an old tyre and now discontinued, same with the Z6.

I usually go with 36 front 36 rear, The father in law told me to try that rather than the 36F and 33R as per the book i think? and the pressures may vary by 2psi when i check them so not a major loss in air.
