As per title. I am after a corded electric drill. Not going to use it that often. Don't want to spend more than £50 so fairly budget. Not bothered about SDS. Doesn't have to be overly powerful. Need it at the mo to use with wire wheel. Refurbishing an old record vice and my 18v cordless just isn't fast enough. Any suggestions welcome

I've got this Black & Decker. A wee bit over your budget but has lasted me a few years and still going strong. I use it fairly regularly and it's managed some pretty heavy work.
If it's not something you'll use much, and you don't need anything fancy, I'd take a chance on the cheapo one here. Has good reviews and the price is certainly right. |

Unsurprisingly, the one I've got doesn't appear to be sold any more and the nearest match doesn't look to be as useful (it had external slots around the outside for the screwdriver bits).
This is the nearest equivalent and its predecessor has done well, making holes in things/putting screws into the holes in things for five years without complaint. Holds its charge well too, can't remember the last time it needed to be recharged.* *I don't use it much now that we're settled in! No hammer action but I can think of precisely six holes I'd need to drill that need hammer action. |

The black and Decker in your first link was exactly the drill that I was goung to get. They had it of all places in argos reduced to £40. Unsurprisingly no stock anywhere! As for the cheepo one, at that price it doesn't really matter if it breaks after a few months! Hmmm decisions! |

It'll be guaranteed for a year, so go nuts with it, if it breaks get it repaired
![]() Smugly, Ive got a Bosch industrial die grinder, not a small jobbie, very powerful, I use it with flap wheels and wire wheels. |

Try places like Robert Dyas and Wilkinsons for simnple corded drills. They often sell B&D kit for a very good price. As above, if it's for the odd use every now and then a simple DIY jobbie will be plenty.

I bought a 80 quid Bosch and it lasted about 2 years, so next I bought a cheap B&Q one.
http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.js...=hammer_drills about 3-4 years ago and it been used and abused big style, including a lot of hammer use with masonary drills that are far too big for it, and getting it so hot the stickers melted off the sides. When and if it breaks I'll buy another one. If it's speed you need not power, and you really want to go cheap and disposable, B&Q sell this too. http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.js...=hammer_drills Last edited by -Ralph-; 10-11-11 at 10:44 AM. |

Ive had an erbauer sds drill breaker for over 3 years, this thing gets abused a lot, its took loads of walls down, 100's of metres of tiles of walls, everything, finally packed up last week, took it apart, its only the brushes that have wore down, had to buy another one as i needed one, so gonna get some brushes for my old one and keep using it
![]() All my tools get a hard life, if they can last 2 years with me, the DIY'er will get 5 years easy. |

The guys at work have got a massive pile of broken performance power drills , their makita's seem to just keep going. I did a thread a bit ago (i think?!) ended up going for a makita...but they were out of stock so got a bosch blue SDS drill for about £70 from screwfix. Really good drill, no idea how long it'll last though.
