Default UPDATE: Coolant change question after interesting dealer suggestion?

Phoned my Suzuki dealer to try and see if the crush washer for the coolant plug is the same as the one for the oil plug.

Anyway, the service guy said they don't touch the coolant plug - they undo the pipe leading from the rad to the block and drain that way.

Good idea I thought but would that not leave coolant in the engine block??
If not, could be an easier way to change the coolant.

Yes, but then you can flush the coolant out by undoing the top hose passing some clean water through the system.

Even if you didn't do this, the bottom coolant hose is pretty near the lowest point, so there's not going to be much old coolant left inside

Looks far easier to remove the pipe rather than the drain plug.

How much coolant does the engine block hold do you think? Id be concerned there'd be too much old fluid or water left around the engine block.

I re-used the washer without problems. Should cost pence if you want a new one. Nothing difficult about using the drain plug other than the coolant jets further than you've placed the bucket.

Thanks. I agree. It's not the cost its just having it to hand! I have the crush washer for the oil plug but not the coolant plaug. Not sure if they are the same size or not???

You can re use the the copper crush washer on the sump many times by heating it until its cherry red and plunging it into cold water.

Don't know if the coolant plug washer is copper, but I'd still take the bottom hose off anyway, just to flush the system through

How do you flush the fluid in the block though?
Thanks

If you take the top hose off and flush through with a hose, gravity will do the rest
