Default Bagless vacuum cleaners - which one?

Recommendations? We need a new vac, and given we have a pretty big house, I think a bagless one would be a good idea. Why are Dyson so expensive? What have you got that's good or bad?

Dyson are expensive because they are very good.

When we bought ours they were doing a £50 trade in on your old vacuum so paid around £140 for ours.

Had a bagless hoover made by hoover and it was sheite.

Dunno if they sorted the issue now but when dysons were fairly new to the market, every single person i knew with one had the motor fail on theirs, this has always put my off.

Our bagless one isn't as good as it was, the rigid handle thingy with the flex pipe has bost on ours again, we won't be buying a third one.

I'll watch this thread for ideas on our next one.

I never ever ever ever thought I would post on vacuum cleaners.

It has come to this, but....

For years we had Dyson bagless thinking these were the best you could get.

Then we got fed up and tried a MIELE cleaner, they do have bags, but we have found it to be much much better than the Dysons ever were.

Back to my SAGA mag now for a read on gardening tools.

Dyson or miele

Our dyson has been fine apart from user error on my part, even then dyson have sent me out replacement parts FOC free twice (been my fault both times)

Mum has just bought a Miele as it was rated the best by Which but it does have a bag.

They must have because I have had mine for 14 years and it is still going . It still cleans as well as it ever did, but parts are starting to fail due to age and use. e.g. needs new wheels (available as spares from Dyson)

We also have a VAX bagless and that is not as good at picking up dog hair and fine dust. The VAX has more features but is not as a good a vacuum.

Personally I'm not keen on Dyson stuff, far too finicky and lots of little bendy plastic bits and pieces. I'm sure they work well, gazillions of people can't all be wrong. I'd look for the simplest version if it was my money, my folks are on their 3rd or 4th or something, all due to little catches or brackets getting worn or broken etc., and yes the early motors got diabolically noisy.

I picked up a Bosch bagless one about 10yrs ago, works very well but it had a stupid "design fault" with the wiring going to the brush motor (bends in one place all the time so breaks), which I've fixed but obviously not for everyone. No longer made.

My experience with Miele stuff has all been positive.

Heavy biker stuff indeed.
