Default Carb/Jetting being a problem - please help.

Tis the season or so it seems to be the season for Carb related woes.

This is on the DRZ, single carb bike.

The carb Im using has had no modifications (excluding the extended fuel screw) since been in my ownership, its the one which came with my bike when I bought it. The previous owner told me it had been jetted to suit the 3x3 and arrow exhaust and it all ran fine.
Since then I've used it trouble free for nearly 12months before it started to play up and now I cant seem to settle the bugger.
FIRST PROBLEM:
Came after a carb service - Bike would cut out if allowed to idle after about 30miles of riding. I moved the clip down the needle by a half (swapped the shim to be above).

SECONDLY:
The rev's wouldnt drop when I returned the throttle to idle - I'd sit at lights with 2200krpm momentarily letting the clutch out slightly with it in gear brought the revs down to normal idle. After swapping engines I'd fitted a head which had vacuum port nipples, I connected either nipple by a hose loop but after riding and finding the above occuring it was suspected to have an air leak, I replaced the nipples with normal bolts and the problem was sorted.

THIRDLY:
OK for a few days then bike decided to have an inconsistant idle, up down up down I couldnt seem to get the fuel screw and idle adjust set up anything near correctly and had a few embarrasing stalls with it refusing to start (ONLY WHEN WARM) so I let out the fuel screw a little more this made it worse so I would it in, this seemed to help until

FOURTH:
I rode in the rain the other day it was quite humid and stuffy and the bike clearly didnt like it as it cut out if allowed to idle, even though the bike was cold, but got worse again when it got warm. So last night I wound the bugger screw all the way in, then 2.5 turns out and ignored it until I set off for work this monring. Bike started and idled fine so I set off and rode around 2 miles until at some lights while waiting to set off the bike idled fine, but then cut out when I went to set off on the green light. I pusehd it to the side of the road and after a while got it running again but only by winding out the screw another half turn (we're at 3 total now). With the bike running I thought I best twist the throttle a bit before setting off. First I cracked it and it killed it, so restart and I treid again twisting the throttle slowly this time and the revs picked up. I let them idle and once again cracked it open to the soul shattering sound of BLURRBB. So I twisted the fuel screw once more (3.5 turns out). I did that and then it all seemed fine. Rode the rest of the way to work.

FITH:
ON pulling into the work the bike cut out again, as I twisted the throttle to get into my parking spot it just died on me. Bloody frustrated i dismounted gave it a big kick and came in to work... wtf do I need to adjust?

Sort of;

Bike Running Fine = Yes
After nearly 7k of ownership it is suspected of fueling issue thanks to homemade fuel hopper breaking up the silicone sealent of said homemade fuel hopper and it mixing with the fuel.

Did the service like so:
Strip down, ultrasoinc bath, rebuild. No spare parts left at the end either
Exact same jets and parts put back into/onto carb after service with exception of extended fuel screw.
(Yes fuel screw has spring and shim on the end).

did you blow jets and air/fuel ways out after sonic cleaning ar did you get a professional company to do it and if so did they do it?

if you let the bike idle will the revs drop to normal?

Yup, I used the air compressor to dry it all before assembly, blew the jets with carb cleaner. (Can and straw)

For the latter 14miles of my ride in I actually thought I'd nailed it, bike ran great, idled spot on it was just when I pulled into work I rolled off, then gave it a little crack just to make the incline into my spot and it cut out.

hhhmmm

what year size and model of the DRZ it?

could be a simple case of a notched cam on the idle adjuster.

but sounds like you have an air/vacuum leak somewhere.

Air ...
Leak...
Somewhere... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

You confirm my fears, but I still thank you for the brainstorm.

I assume its co-incidental but it wouldnt start this morning either, i quickly identified the starter relay was fubar and swapped it out with another one and it fired first push.
I mention this purely because although I see it as irrelivent, I also watch house and if that show has taught me anything it is that the most irrelivent thing to one person can inspire genious in another.

You running the standard carb or a enduro FCR?

Maybe worth redoing the fuel lines, it cleared a lot of issues I had with the SV. The other ring is it could be the vacum hose is too short (had that also!)

It's the standard mukini cv carb, ****ing thing has just cost me another night of my life, took me hour and half to get home after the thing conked out and refused to start. Got it home and decided I'd take the jets out and put them in a spare carb I had. I've done that;
first attempt: the floats failed **** petrol all over me boots and so it came off again, i swapped the floats from my original carb into this one then.
Second attempt: rolled to the main road 30min ago, tried until the battery died to get the fecker to turn but it just sounded flooded. Kept turning the starter but wouldn't fire more than 2,3 pops. Knackerd and gutted. Battery is on charge at the moment I'll try one push in the morning then I'm calling a taxi.

Matt, my drz will run sweet as a nut then I'll come to a stop at lights from speed one time and it will cut out on me, just one of the characters of the bikes I guess.

Anyway, is there anyway you could rig up a temporary supply fresh clean fuel and let it idle using this method?

Your symptoms above are similar to when I gave my bike a mini service, I must've disturbed some crap in the tank, my bike ran crap after that, I ran some redex through and seemed to solve it after a while.

I put in a little pancake filter inline between tap and carb which is serviceable.

Your problems sound more than like carb issues but just check above as it may be contributing.
