hi
im looking at geting a pair of maxxis suppermax diamond tyres fitted this week , and wonderd if any one has them on there sv 650s ? if so how you felt about them , in wet and dry weather i use my bike for commuting every day , getting them fitted for £210 drive in so think thats a good price as been told there a good long lasting tyre , also how is the best way of scrubbing tyres in as im new to bikes and never had new tyres on my bike yet , read a lot and know you must take it easy , but does easy mean 30 to 40 mph in the dry , and not to take bends leaning bike , i am going to try and wait for a dry day to get them fitted , so will make it easyer , i do 64 miles a day on bike so how long should i take it easy as my roads are 60mph that i use , so wont be easy as will be slowing down the traffic if i have to stick to 30mph , thanks for any help regarding this , as i said im new , so i dont thrash my bike , thanks again |

Buy a pair of Michelin Pilot Roads or Pirelli Diablo Stradas instead. Most bike dealers and tyre suppliers can offer great deals on these as the main tyre suppliers to the trade have them on special offer at the moment. They are far better tyres than the Maxxis and probably cheaper too.

210 isn't that great a price for SV tyres to be honest. Its about average for a set of premium brand tyres. I certainly wouldnt pay that for a budget brand like Maxxis. Scrubbing in - take it easy doesnt mean ride at 30mph. Ride at your normal speeds, just accelerate more gently taking longer to get up to 60 mph, and brake more gently giving yourself more stopping distance. Corners just dont push the tyres, slow down a bit, dont use too much lean angle to start with, then slowly increase the lean angles until the tyres are scrubbed. You dont need a dry day to get the tyres scrubbed, but I always double the mileage for scrubbing in when wet. One dry day will be sufficient to scrub in your case, so long as your 65 odd mile commute has a good variety of roads, speeds, bends and roundabouts.

Do you mean Pirelli Angel ST's? if so i am pretty sure they will be a better tyre than the Maxxis. The Angel ST's are an excellent sports touring tyre. |

I just had some Maxxis Supermaxx Sports put on. £140 for the pair + £40 to fit. I find these to be very very good even in the rain the last few days. Tbh, I haven't had many to compare against. But I do like these.

They feel like your riding over a rough road and offer poor front end feel. Get the other tyers

I've used the Supermaxx & they're not a bad tyre. Fast bikes have a test of some new mid range bikes this month & have used the Diamonds as a control tyre. They reckon that they're a good tyre for the money, they feel a little strange at 1st because of the diamond tread on the side.
Another article is here on it's launch last year. http://www.fastbikesmag.com/2011/03/...iamond-launch/

![]() I suppose it depends if you would be doing that kind of pleasure riding or not - if not then the 35 quid odd in petrol adds to the cost of the tyres, but if so, you would have spent that petrol money anyway going somewhere else. By the time you get back the tyres will be fully scrubbed in. |
