Default Oil Leak Advice Please!

Found a few small patches of oil on the floor. This is for my GSXR. Took the side fairing off and had a ganders. First thing to mention is above the photo the crank case(? thank that's right!) shows signs of the bike being low sided at some point as is ground away a bit.

The oil leak appears to be coming from the seal between the black crankcase(?) and the block. Look above the big bolt. It's pretty minor. Not much on the garage floor, and I did about 100 miles last ride and oil level hasn't noticeably changed.

So what should I do? Forget about it for now and keep an eye on it? The bike is a 2001 27k miles, £1700 far from mint, so doesn't warrant masses spent on it. Or get it fixed? If so, any ideas how big a job or how difficult for a intermediate (at best) hobby mechanic?

Excellent use of the "..." there Paul. Let's call it the rollercoaster dots. It results in a moment of fear, followed by relief and desire to punch you in the face.

You might want to see about getting that finger removed. I'm sure it's not helping.

I'm sure someone useful will be along shortly ....

Wanna borrow my tight white jeans for when you work on that oil leak since I already got them covered in grease getting Chris Numbers a beer out of the garage fridge on Saturday night - then return them to me sparkly white again?

Oh and that's not his finger, it's his oddly shaped chipolata willy. It's what he always uses to fix his bike.

I cant answer your question, but have a look at www.gixerjunkies.com and see if theres anything on there specific to your model GSXR.

It's always hard to tell from these pics but it does look like that cover could be the culprit. Am I also seeing the tell-tale signs of gasket sealant oozing out the joint? Which side of the bike is it out of interest?

Oil leaks can be a ******* though - I spent weeks chasing one on the RGV. It's not always clear cut where it's coming from. I'd clean and dry that area and then dust it with talc. You should then be able to tell if that's where the leak is coming from - best to know for sure before you start buying gaskets etc.

Apologies for the serious answer - I've probably killed this thread.
