Default Rear brake hose clip screw corroded.

Hi all, just bought an sv about 3 weeks ago,

I recently went to fit a new p-clip to secure the rear brake cable and have discovered that the original screw is well and truly corroded within the thread-insert, which is set in the frame (see pic).

I cannot see any other solution except for drilling it out and fitting a new thread insert, can any one offer some advice and in particular, the insert size that I require.

Thanks,
Dave

Default Re: Replacing rear brake cable p-clip

drill the head off then grip the part that is left with mole grips and turn out. it should come out and if not then just drill the well nut out and fit a new one.

Are you not able to grip it without drilling? It seems to be fairly raised from the swing arm

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I can grip it with mole grips, but its seems the thread insert in the swing-arm is also rotating.

Had round 2 with the problem today, used the mole grips to wrench it out, no drilling needed, thanks for the advice elliott. Will be ordering a insert kit tonight.

no need to use an insert. just use a rubber well nut.

Thanks for the idea Bibio, had'nt considered using one of them, just seen a diagram on google of how they work, and that idea is perfect.
