Default Snapped Gear Lever Peg - repair?

05 Pointy London

Hi

I managed to drop my bike and the gear level peg has snapped off. See pics. I have had a sulk and now need to fix.

Questions:

1. Do I need to replace the whole gear lever, or is it possible to take the peg out and put a new one in?

2. How do it do it?

3. Where to I get the bits?

4. Is there a recommended temporary fix to get it to the garage (other than in 1st gear) if necessary.

Thank you. Very much appreciated.

Drill it. shove a bolt through with a nut either side of the lever and put the old rubber over the bolt.

you bought the "budget toe peg" rather than the "fixer peg" correct? Did it come with the bolt to screw in the other side?

Thanks both. Good. I have ordered that from the link.

I assume its just a case of bashing the old "stub" out with a hammer and then screwing this one in then?

1.You can dismantle it and change the lever
2.It goes onto part no. 5(footrest microfiche, the part itself is on the gear shifting fiche), easiest if you dismantle the rearset and put it into a vice, part. no 6 the bolt comes out and you change it.
3. I bet I'll find one that will be a fit at a salvage yard, ebay or if you want a new one the money suckin suzuki dealer, you see the lever is the same on many other suzukis. I lowsided my SV at the track and needed a quick fix, so a guy I know with a lathe made me a new one with M6 threads and a lockbolt. If the break isn't straight use a file to take down the area where the peg will be boltet on.
For normal riding I think it's ok, the quick fix lastet quite a while, but it didn't last long first time on a big track with hard riding, lucky me I brought my gixer 600 k3 oem rearsets to use incase of a crash, the parts are as I've said interchangeable.

Exactly the same thing happened on my bike a month ago when I was riding down the road, it just snapped off! £78 for a new lever from Suzuki, and I called a few times to check if FixerPeg was in stock and the guy doesn't have any, so in the end with the help from a mate, I drilled the old centre out, ground it a bit flat, made a thread in the hole then screwed a bolt into the old lever held in by a nut on the outside of the lever.

Good morning all.

Having a Lathe, I have done the 'Fixerpeg' type of repair many times on gear levers. The trick is to make sure that you drill the mounting hole centrally. Being pretty narrow, if you don't get the hole central the end of the lever will split.
I wouldn't advise anyone to do this sort of repair on a rear brake pedal however. As, one wouldn't want it to snap off in the event of an emergency stop.

Cheers.
