Default Cheaper bike jeans?

Following a horrible experience overheating yesterday (me, not the bike), I started looking for some summer bike jeans with kevlar panels & knee armour (and pref hip armour).

Brand name jeans seem to start at £140. Seems a bit steep considering our usually short lived summers!

Has anyone bought any of the cheaper makes? Any recommendations?

I realise there's a bike wear review section but I need to buy something fast and that section seems largely inactive.

I bought some 'Hornee'? jeans from MegaSuperDoodperDiscountVillage, or George Whites as it used to be call for about £80 I think, not tested them for sliding down the road (and don't plan to either), but they are comfy and not as hot as leathers

don't bother as the weather is turning again so best buy some good waterproofs as your going to need them.

I also have hornee jeans. Been wearing them all through this hot weather. Comfortable and look good too. No armour, but a decent amount of kevlar. I suspect they'd be decent protection in a low speed spill, but as with all jeans, it's a compromise, and on the more compromising side of the scale.

For anyone in the GM area, Infinity clearance warehouse have loads in. I got a pair of armoured Route One's for £60. They have other brands for a similar price but the armour seemed to have a better chance of staying put with these ones. I'm sure they are less good than Leather but certainly a lot less hot.

I bought RSTs for around £80, they do have knee armour (adjustable) and pockets for hip armour (£10) as well.
Use them all the time nowadays.

I've just gone the opposite way and treated myself to an expensive pair from Held that were only launched a few weeks ago.

http://www.jtsbikerclothing.com/shop...6362/blue.html

£194 for them but they differ from other jeans I've tried as the Kevlar is woven directly into the fabric not stitched on as panels inside. They look just like a normal pair of blue jeans on, with no funny panels down the legs. They come with knee armour which I haven't put in yet and pockets for hip protection. The main appeal for me was that they come in half sizes, I'm mid way between an 8 and a 10 so being able to buy a size 9 was perfect. Also they have a 32" leg, so quite long which I need, but low on the waist so I don't look like Simon Cowell. And the lack of lumpy Kevlar means I don't look like I have a huge ar$e and hips, I'm sure Rictus will approve of the snug flattering fit of these.

So far I've only ridden to the station in them but they were comfy to sit around in on the train and office, and not as hot as my baggy Sartso combats. I tend to wear leathers if I'm on the motorway but for a lift down to Soho or riding into town to go shopping these will be great, and I'll be using them in 38 degrees of sweltering sunshine in Thailand in a few months.

They also do them for men.

I've never really understood the whole knee down thing. And anyway, with my bike I have to corner very gently or the cupcakes get smashed to bits.
