Do you guys rekon that with a suitably modified connecting cable it would be ok to hook up 2 bikes to the optimate or am i maybe best alternating a single connection on a weekly basis or so?

Alternate them.Optimate say not to connect more than one battery to it at a time.I always found that you dont need to leave the bike hooked up all the time anyway, with just a regular top up quite enough to keep things ok.

Generally when connecting two batteries together in parallel they should be the same make capacity and age (obviously voltage

The above makes sense thanks. I will stick with just the one.
Plus it halves the risk of tripping up over the effing thing! |

Optimate now do a dual bank of their chargers. Unfortunately it's not possible to charge two batteries with one charger due to their electrical internals monitoring things. Doesn't like 24 volts.
