Question Speedo is not accurate.

Evening all.

I have noticed my K3 pointy naked has started to read inaccurately.

At 3K rpms and 4th gear it sits dead on 30mph and has done since I owned it for just over a year. (is that the same for you?)

It now reads 22-23mph at the given revs and gear. So obviously something is not working correctly.

I have asked on Facebook user groups and got some decent feedback - spray WD40 into the speedo wire, could be salt and winter riding, water ingress and so on.

So I'm on here to ask you guys n gals what your opinion is? I'm low to moderate in skill so anything electrical is currently beyond me. My local shop are going to have a look in the morning, but I wonder given my skill level, and the ability of a chat in thread is going to be, to enable me to have a decent go at sorting this out...?

Or should I just hand it in to the bike shop and let them sort it? I am thinking about a new bike, so wonder if I should simply part-ex it in and neglect to mention the fault..?

Thanks for any help. Nutter.

The most common cause for a pointy to develop a speedo problem is that the magnet in the front wheel plays up. That usually gives erratic reads and can be a bit of a nuisance, so check that.

If you want a very accurate speedo, have a chat with Bibio and buy one of his rear wheel mounted speedo systems, at the same time you can chuck a gixer fork on your bike too.

Good luck

True, the fork sux...

I am deciding whether to try something new or throw a few quid at my beloved, if troublesome SV this year.

GSXR fork would be lovely

Been on a rideout with a group this evening and been asking all over the place. It seems the magnet is the problem, agreed. Many thanks for your reply.

Check the speedo rotor. It can be a crack has appeared, or a tooth may have broken clean off.
