Hey! not posted in ages but I'm back again.!
I have a y plate sv650 just under 30k on the clock. Went out for a ride today and as I came round a corner in second started to accelerate I heard a large clunk underneath me then a constant knocking noise. Faster the faster I went and slower the slower I went. Cant tell exactly where its coming from tho.! But this only happens in second gear.! Came home searched thru fourms for similar problems but cant see a post with the same problem as me. I have checked the chain, cleaned and adjusted it. It does seam to have a tight spot when where the joint on the chain goes round the back sprocket but a little cleaning helped a bit. I have 20 mm slack on the tightest part and about 35mm on the most loose part. Anyone have and ideas? Think I might be looking to buy a new chain and sprockets anyway. Just in case. |

first thing i would do is stop riding it and drain the oil into a tray and inspect the oil and filter for metal.

chain and sprocket noise will be there in all gears. same goes for crank and such. only thing that would affect noise in one gear will be the actual gear cog in the gearbox. its pretty rare for a suzuki gearbox to go though.

Knowing my luck it would be something like that. it was typical that i was about 60 miles away from home when it happened.
Weird that it doesnt affect acceleration or anything, just the knocking noise. |

Drained the oil today. Found lots of small black looking non metallic bits at the bottom of the tray.

is the bits hard or squidgy? have you checked to see if they stick to a magnet.

could be carbon or ally. either way they do not belong there.
out of curiosity when was the last time you changed the oil and filter? |
