hi guys
i have a gen 2 sv650s 07 race bike so basically i want to do the flywheel lightening mod as per the lwt racer website and at the same time want to delete the starter but cant seem to find any info on it online which of course makes me think theres a reason why no ones done it, i dont mind using a floor starter as i can make on at work for free but i will not be running a total loss system as its a pain in the ass and chews batteries. any help appreciated thanks |

You'd be best to speak to the people offering lightened flywheels for sale in the for sale section

£125 with the OEM steel bolts, £160 with titanium bolts (saving another 30 grams). We can also design and machine a starter motor blanking plate for you. PM me for details. |

Shipping to and from New Zealand shouldn't be a problem if it is packed well.
I absolutely guarantee that anyone who can do the job properly will charge you waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than we do for a one off lightening. We developed our lightened flywheel, originally for my project bike, over the course of 6 months and hundreds of hours of design and machining and thousands of miles of testing and the R&D costs were covered out of my own pocket. This isn't a job you can give to any machine shop as the consequences of getting it wrong can be terminal for the crank. With regards to the starter, you can remove it but are you sure it's worth the agro? I've run race bikes without starters before and it's a total pain in the hoop unless everything at the race meeting is working perfectly. You stall it in the wrong place at the wrong time and you'll be kicking and cursing as the rest of the field ****s off and you're paddling the bike to edge of the track. Sure, you'll save a few pounds in weight but the parasitic loss reduction you'll make in the engine are so small they can't be measured... |

I was reading an interview with Colin Edwards, and he mentioned that having the starter on his VTR WSB bike saved him quite a few championship points when he rode for Honda ....

What is your cost not including shipping and whee are you located? I will have to discuss with my mechanic as he is my only sponsor and I wouldn't want to **** him off 😂 He's quiete experienced when it comes to custom work engine builds etc and as for the starter yea I'm still not sure about that..... In the pits it won't be s problem as I can make a roll starter for free but like you said stalling in pit lane or worse on the grid would not be ideal

This thread sounds interesting, I'm currenty in the early stages of building my first bike, an SV streetfighter. I've had lightened flywheels on cars before now, but what would the implications if this be in a bike for the road. I'm still currently concentrating on the chassis but may be something I'd consider when it comes to the engine as I'm prob gonna send the whole assembly off for balancing and may get this done with a lightened flywheel.
