Default 1st Bike in 28yrs !

And Guess what !

I chose an SV650 '99 :P

I wanted something that would be a bit of fun and not scare the life out of me and it's great. The last bike I owned was a 1976 Suzuki 250K(ram air version) back in 1976. But then girls and cars came along , then kids so never got round to owning a bike until now. So now my mid life crisis is here, I can get away with buying one.! I was so worried at first that I would be too old and woudn't cope but like they say, it's just like riding a bike ! Love it to bits. Just a shame I didn't get it earlier in the season.
I'm not sure what model it is though. I thought it was an 'S' but don't know how to tell and also what are the differences in the K series ?
Log book says it's a 650 SX but I would like to knowthe main differenced and if any bits are compatable from the later series. I have already found out the K4 seat doesn't fit so it will be back on that big internet auction site again soon !
I would also like to know if a K4 regulator would fit but that's on another post.

Look forward to getting back into it, whilst I still can and maybe a few meets.

Great choice and welcome to the site.

The model you have is the same as mine a SX The "S" denotes its the half-faired type the naked type is the "N" model. They started in 99 and the series went like this, X,Y,K1,K2 which are all the "classic" shape i.e curvy frame. The angular framed SV started as K3 and the latest model is the K4. If your looking for parts depending what the part is pretty much anything from SX to SK2 should be suitable for you.

Good to see you've bought the right bike, I know how you feel about going so long between bikes - I used to have a Kawasaki 250 triple, them were the days...

I see you're in East London so get yourself up to Soho one Friday night and meet the Massive:

Nice one. I just bought an SV650Y which appears to have black rims - think that is one of the main differences. How can I find out what was changed from model i.e. what are the differences between a Y model and the previous X model and what did they do with K1 & K2 before the big K3 change.

Have fun with the bike and be careful.

250 triple? Newfangled nonsense. Things have been downhill since my 1960 Triumph 6T Thunderbird was dismantled. (Actually downhill was the best thing for it.) The SV is a wonderful machine for getting back on 2 wheels after a break, good choice. It was 27 years for me and although they weren't wasted it's been very good to be back.

Oh sorry, I thought this was SV talk, seems I have entered the wrong forum.

This must be the "old duffers talk about antiques" forum.

I think X Y and K1 are all exactly the same except for colour changes.
The Y model is the only one with dark wheels, which is what mine is, makes it much easier for cleaning

The K2 had preload adjustment on the front suspension. I think that's about it, although there might be more to it than that
