Default Advice Required: Someone dented my "scraped" can

You've probably already read about and some of you have even seen the results of my first off within 30 hours of owning my shiny new bike. Well today after a crappy day at work I get back to my bike, hoping the ride home will cheer me up, only to find a note slipped under my tank bra. I open it up to find it’s a “please call me….” note, I then walk round the bike to find a dent and scrape on the exhaust just under the pillion peg. Now the exhaust did have a tiny scrape on the edge next to the piping, which some of you have seen, but other than that it was nice and shiny. So what do I do?

I haven’t rung the person yet as I’m too tired and it’s late, but you have to admire this person for leaving a note. I’m just a bit annoyed because their was plenty of space in the motorcycle bay today, I checked my bike on my lunch and breaks, and so there was no need for anyone to park within an arm’s length of another bike, but I’ll just have to wait to find out what happened.

nothing you can do until you make the phone call. call him/her and get the facts and see what they'll offer.

give full credit to the person to leave a number. Someone reversed into my old scooter. i watched them (i was 4 floors up) hit the bike, get out and pick the bike up then just drive off.
luckily a mate saw it and got the number of the car and he got a call by the police, he soon paid.

if only i was that lucky with my old bike, alright it was only a 125 scooter but thats not the point. I think i went through about a dozen sets of tyres and about 10-15 mirrors from type of people i wont mention because it will just get me started, anyway noone ever saw anything and so i had to pay everytime

could be a matter of if u feel guiltyu cause it was already slightly scrapped, x plain this and say tha a new official system is X, an after market is x (cheaper) now as it was already slightly injured ill chip in x, is this acceptable???

Might work, just give em a call and see what they say.

I called the guy yesterday and found he had actually dropped his bike on to mine! After closer inspection it seems he also damaged the top and lower fairing a bit too, but he doesn't remember seeing any damage on them, not even the damage I had done to them myself on my first off . He said it shouldn't make too much difference to the resale value but offered me £100-£200 to compensate for the damage , so I'm meeting him this week to sort it out.

Seems reasonable enough. That's because he's a biker, if he'd been a car driver he would have sad your bike was parked badly. And if you're not planning on selling it soon it really will make no difference to the resale value, and you can spend the cash on a nice aftermarket exhaust

Exactly Nuntius - Valman you now know why you got an honest note from the guy without him legging it; he was a biker! If he'd been a car driver, he's have scarpered.

This may have turned out good for you.
