Default Problem Changing Down Gears

Hello, hoping someone can help a rider with limited mechanical knowledge.

Got an 03 SV650S and I am having trouble changing down - same thing happened 7 months ago at first service. The dealer said the linkage was gunked up which I could'nt understand because the bike is cleaned and lubed weekly and the assembly was pretty much spotless.

Now the same thing has happened and before I take it back to the dealer I was hoping someone could give me a bit of advice so the dealer would take me a bit more seriously.

The linkage is turning the spindle which comes out from the gearbox so I am stuck.

Any advice would be really greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Possible causes are overtightend chain or overfilled with oil.

thanks for the advice but it can't be either of those as the bike has only just developed this problem (again) and I have'nt touched the oil or chain (don't do big mileages and chain seems fine)

In case anyones noted that this type of thread has been posted before, the only one I can find after trawling through 37 pages is the thread to say its been coverered before ! Thanks again

Possibly a loose footpeg. I suffered the same problem that got progressively worse. The worse it got the more the peg was loose.

If you have checked the chain tension and oil level which i think are the most common causes of this then I dont know what else to suggest

I've had problem with a gunked up gear lever and a good spray with degreaser and then WD40 cured that

Has the bike been stood for a while over winter or do you use it regularly, if its been stood it make have got stuck or is just stiff, give it a blast wth WD40 or something like that and then see what its like

Does it change up OK ? are you sure you arent rushing or being a tad to aggressive with your down change

HTH

Thanks for the advice. I'm not rushing the gear changes, I've been riding for 7 years now (big deal I know) all year thru and have'nt changed my riding style.
I'm going to give it a really good clean and lube to see if that works because to be honest, I've been concentrating my efforts on the actual linkage and not the footpeg area.
Thanks again everyone
