Just treated myself to a new Optimate III SP (splash proof).
It's for the bikes, but does anyone know if you can use it on a normal 12v car battery? The box shows lots of different pictures of bikes, but no cars. Help much appreciated. Cheers.

OptiMate III - the unique 5-step battery optimiser specially designed for modern 12V starter batteries from 2.5 to 28 Amp-hours capacity. Ideal for motorcycles, ATVs, jet-skis etc.
This is the standard Optimate III but I would guess that the sp is the same. http://www.optimate.co.uk |

If you want to do batteries bigger than 28Ah on a regular basis you'd be better off with the Accumate, recommended for up to 75Ah I think.
Having said that I've used an Optimate on car batteries up to 45Ah or so and it manages fine. I suspect the "recovery" function (getting batteries back from being totally flat) would be limited, but for a routine maintenance charge it copes fine, just takes a loooooong time to complete a charge. I didn't say that, BTW. ![]() |
