Default Where would I get a BMW engine from?

A mate of mine is right into flying & has currently got a Rotax engine in his little flying machine - He's looking for a BMW 1150 lump to replace it with...

Anyone know where he'd be able to pick up a BMW engine

There's a guy on www.UKGSER.com called Steptoe. I think you can get his details but may need to register. He's a small time BMW specialist. Don't know him personally. Alternatively Martin at Bath Rd BMW Bristol(Bristol Mottorad) is a bit of a geezer and always up for buying and selling things.

AFAIK the rotax engine is very light and very powerful for its size whereas the bmw engine is very heavy and not so powerful.

if its a little flying machine i would guess the BMW won't suit :P

I don't think it matters as he just wants to throw it off a cliff.

BMW boxers were originally designed as a aircraft engine, yes, a lot of german bi-panes in WW1 had BMW boxers in them , what do you thing the BMW roundel logo comes from, it's a view of a spinning propeller

the 1150 might be a heavier engine, but also more torque and the ability to turn a bigger prop that will more than make up for any difference in weight

The Rotax is costing him a small fortune in bits (because its a rotax,) The BMW is a much more torquey unit which is relatively bomb-proof in construction...

Plus it can be connected to a specialised gear box prior to being fitted to the prop (which is a good thing apparently )
