Default Ebay Crash Mushrooms

Thinking I should really get some protection for my sv. Only thing is that £60 for the R&G goodies is a bit expensive for simple turned nylon and high tensile bolts.

Found these on Ebay:

Anyone bought them? I'm a bit miffed by the lack of info given. I guess £20 protectors are PROBABLY better than nowt.....

No doubt posting this will ensure that I drop the bike or worse in the next couple of days..... Fingers crossed eh

Yup,better than nought but not worth £25.They would be OK in a static drop, but would probably not save much in a moving slide.Maybe a tenner's worth?

If I remember correctly these are fixed to the fairing and in a spill just snap off and cause more damage to you fairing.
Basicly just cack...

better off with bubble wrap.

Dont skimp, R&G's are worth every penny and will save you £'s over cheaper items should your bike go down.

Mine would be a write off if it hadn't been for R&G saving the day, and they do versions for and without the fairing!

Thanks guys, I was kinda expecting this sort of reply, but there was I guess always the chance that someone would write about their 100mph slide saved by a bargain protector.

I suppose the calculation that makes the R&Gs very cheap is adding up the cost of replacing all the write off bits that would be toast in a low speed drop without them.

£60 for R&G? Where from? Good price that. i'm not sure exactly what the bill is for a set of Motosliders currently, but they were a fair bit cheaper than R&G when I got mine. Also, IMO, better.

R&Gs seem to be more solid design than other bungs. I recently bought some and was surprised that you have to fit a bracket to the bike and then the bungs to that, rather than directly to the bike like other crash proctectors. Haven't tested them yet (touch wood!) so don't know how they will fair, but evryone I have spoken says they are the db's!

See, I'm not so sure about the new ones. They've not been as rigorously crash tested as the old ones were yet (plenty of time for that!) But I do recall one where the bung failed completely, and in my own crash on them the bolt ended up bent to right angles. Now, fair enough, it's good that the bolts bend, it absorbs impacts instead of transferrng them, but it's a matter of balance and from what I saw of mine, it's not quite right- the bung never hid an object, it bent that way just from sliding on smooth tarmac.

Also, the parts are expensive... Bend a bolt (and you will) and it's £10, new bungs are £20 IIRC. I mangled one side when I got knocked off, and scraped the other by cunningly falling off at some traffic lights (I have a note from my doctor saying that wasn't my fault!) Whole new set of Motosliders was less than the replacement costs for 2 bungs and a bolt. And the Motosliders really have been tested, by the notoriously crash-happy members of SV Rider.

Not to totally slag the R&Gs of course- it's an extremely clever design, and they work with lowers better than any other. But I think that bolt will prove to be a weakness, or at least a point of contention.

But you get 2 stickers with R&G bungs!

I also bought the R&G bar-ends sliders - These however I am not so confident about. stock bar ends have a 3" bolt and spacer withe nut deep inside the bar. R&Gs have a 1" bolt. If the bike went over I would imagine these to rip straight out. maybe that's the design, I think it seems a bit weak. Might buy some 3" bolts for the R&G's and go bak to using the spacers.
