Default Furred metal

Is a wire brush and some hartd scrubbing action the best way to un-fur furred metal or is there something out there that I may spray/rub onto it that will clean it up?

Thanks
Luke

Not much you can do but polish it, which will mean it'll fur easier.
Prevention is better than cure.

Try ACF50 spray - Use it on my SV and the family pushbikes which are all kept outside. Stops rust on contact, keeps it at bay (and makes it look darker/oily so not so obvious anything has corroded) and doesn't wash off easily in the rain.

i found kurust "the rust treatment" chemical thats designed for turning rust back into metal works great on furred bolts, gives them a glossed over look and gets rid of the furring.

Aye, but they corrode again straight away... With kurust, you're supposed to rustproof within 24 hours. It takes away the corrosion, but leaves the perfet corrosion surface.

Wherever possible, take off the furred metal and throw it in the bin. Then clean up what you cna't remove (metal scotchbrite pad is my weapon of choice), ACF50 it, spray it again in a week, job's a good 'un. Stuff lasts forever.

Hmm, very odd. This was ferric metal, I take it? Kurust only reacts with iron oxide, on anything else it'll just cover it with an oily sheen. Doesn't do anything to aluminium oxide, for example, which is what usually causes the furry look.
