Default Changing the coolant

Hi time to change the coolent a few questions,

Do i need to u distilled water with the 50:50 coolant mix?

Can i just drop the radiator down to refill it as it looks a lot easier than removing the faring?

Cheers in advance

my preferred choice for coolant is to use a "ready-to-use" type from one of the major auto manufacturers. take your pick which one, I use Toyota "red" coolant because I have a Japan built Toyota, but VW/Audi stuff is excellent, I'd trust Honda, BMW etc too.

You can usually get either 4lts or 1 lt bottles, 4lts of Toyota stuff cost me £13.

These will have excellent corrosion inhibitors and will be suitable for the materials used in an SV, and will have a reliable service life of at least 5yrs.

My 2003 manual says to use a 50:50 mix.
Though Embees idea sounds better than faffing around with measuring jugs and the like.

Why not just lift the petrol tank and fill it from there?
Or maybe you have a curvey and i'm missing somthing.

Curvys have a bonnet type tank as well.

The filler on the curvey is at the top right corner of the rad,and is easy to get at on my naked, but requires the fairing panel off on the s IIRC.I just filled it up and ran the engine a bit to make sure there were no air bubbles and topped it up.Is there more to it than that or am I a duffer?

On the s - has anyione tried using a funnel and a bit of flexible hose to save removing the fairing? I'm looking at doing this in the next few months and I can't see why the fairing needs to come off (assuming the radiator cap can be taken off without removing the fairing?).

Of Course, Just a funnel and piece of hose. No need to remove the fairing
