Default A second bike

Ok, the SV is in fairly bad need of some maintenance and I'd like to take it off the road for a week or two while I do it all. I'm expecting broken bolts, etc, so I can't do bits and pieces in the evenings and expect the bike to be useable in the morning.

This has led me to believe I need an old hack to ride, and I need it pretty soon.
I can scrape about £250 together for something that needs to do 35 fast commuting miles every day (country roads) and if necessary, do few hundred mile motorway trips.
It would be nice if it will sell for about the same with a few thousand more miles on it.
Does anybody know of something for sale? or have any good suggestions for what to look for apart from the standard GS500, CB500, XJ600, Bandit.
I don't mind if it needs a few things doing, but a project bike wouldn't be an option.

Older 400s, maybe even 250s!? Just had a flick through eBay. £250 might be pushing it a bit, but you never know, there are quite a few on there.

Look at me!

Cheers.
I reckon that will go for more than I'm willing to pay.

I have no issues with the idea, but aren't they a little pricey?

That may add a little time to my commute, though it would ease my money worries.
Unfortunately, it's not a real option, since I do need to do 70mph for hours at a time on the motorway.

Indeed, as far as I know, there aren't any motorways that go over cliffs.

Look at me!

I reckon that the reserve on that will be more than £250 - but wouldn't Carsick look sweet on a flowery bike
